The Orlické hory and Podorlicko area is full of wildlife, varied activities and interesting places worth visiting. Deštné in the Eagle Mountains is an ideal starting point for countless trips.
Velká Deštná Lookout Tower
The new Velká Deštná lookout tower, which stands on the top of the Eagle Mountains was opened on 26 October 2019. The original one stood here in the 19th century, but it was destroyed by natural elements. The original lookout tower was demolished in 2010, and it took nine years for a new one to be built. Velká Deštná lookout tower is 18 m tall and can accommodate up to 30 visitors. It consists of 4 floors and an open top platform. Admission is free.
The ideal route to the lookout tower is from Sedlo Šerlich. Then you can go from the lookout tower to the Šerlich peak and from there to the mountain hut Masarykova chata.

Kačenčina stezka (Kačenka’s Trail)
Princess Kačenka has ruled the Eagle Mountains in the summer for over 300 years. Her fairy-tale journey leading around Deštné in the Eagle Mountains is full of fun, adventure and new things to learn. You can look forward to 18 stops with interactive elements and tasks for the whole family. In addition, fairy-tale characters will guide you along the entire length of the trail. Collect all the stamps, get rewards and become eligible for the raffle for valuable prizes. Kačenka is a mountain ruler like no other in the Czech lands.
At the Dobrošov, Hanička and Skutina military fortresses you can visit several important artillery cabins, ammunition depots, barracks, infirmaries, bunkers and other pre-war fortifications built in the 1930s. Nature trails will take you through the fortresses and reveal the history of the pre-war period.

The whole of Neratov has been an important pilgrimage site since the second half of the 17th century. The foundation stone of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was laid by the manor owner, Johann Karl of Nostitz-Rhieneck, on 14 August 1723. At the end of the Second World War, the church burned down leaving only a torso. Since 2000, it has been undergoing gradual reconstruction and is now famous mainly for its glass roof. The church has been registered on the list of cultural monuments since 1992.

Častolovice Castle dates back to the 13th century when the original building, a water fortress, stood here. Jan Bedřich of Oppersdorf and his wife Magdaléna of Donín had this fortress rebuilt into a Renaissance castle between 1588 and 1615.
In 1992, the castle was returned in restitution to the current owner, Diana Phipps Sternberg. She lives in the castle and manages it. She is still working on its reconstruction. The architecture of the castle is a combination of the Renaissance and early Baroque. You can look forward to frescoes, Renaissance and coffered ceilings, paintings, the castle library, the English Park and the menagerie.
The town was founded in 1501 and has retained its Renaissance character to this day. The square with its arcade and numerous pleasant cafés, the chateau and the original chateau garden with wooden buildings designed by architect Dušan Jurkovič, the old town hall, the Church of the Holy Trinity and other historical monuments are all worth a visit.

Villa Nova Uhřínov – Archaeological Museum in Nature
Go back in time in 700 years to the reign of the Přemyslids. The Villa Nova Uhřínov open-air archaeological museum tries to replicate a medieval colonisation village. You will see residential houses, a timbered pit-house (burdei), replicas of prehistoric tools, a bread oven, a barn and a smithy. A guided tour can be arranged with the museum management.

Right in the town of Deštné v Orlických horách, there is the Bellmaker and Potter Studio, which is an original combination of workshop and shop. You can not only buy all the products here, but also make them yourself at one of the workshops.

The spa town of Kudowa Zdroj lies below Stolové hory (Table Mountains) a few kilometres north of the Czech-Polish border. The city is one of the oldest spa towns in Europe, and its history dates back to the 15th century. Today, the spa treats heart and circulatory system disorders and many other ailments. Of the nine springs, five are in use. The springs, which contain alkaline-earth and arsenic-iron acids, appear in the park along the stream Chudobský potok. The town is dominated by the Polonia sanatorium built in 1905. Numerous pleasant restaurants and cafes complete the peaceful spa atmosphere.
Those who want a proper swim can visit the 25-metre pool in Rychnov nad Kněžnou. Everyone else can let themselves be carried away by the current of a wild river, ride on a water slide or relax in the bubbles of a whirlpool after doing sports. You can also relax in two steam chambers, an infrared sauna and a dry sauna with a separate relaxation area complete with a salt relaxation room and outdoor terrace.
For children there is a paddling pool with a fountain and slides and a separate swimming pool that is also used to organise swimming for mothers with toddlers.
